The Islamic-American Zakat Foundation is the first national Islamic charitable organization in the Washington Metropolitan Area devoted primarily to helping poor and needy in America. Established thirty years ago to help collect the obligatory Islamic Zakat and Sadaqa and distribute it to the needy, destitute, and homeless, we have helped thousands of eligible applicants with their rent, electric and gas bills, and medical needs. We now employ a dedicated case manager through “The Medina Program” to help applicants with budgeting, social problem solving and referrals so that they may be self-sufficient in the future. Some of them also have become Zakat givers! Join us in celebrating thirty year of demonstrating to our American community what Islam is really about, not through words, but through action.
